Production of cooking energy briquettes from agroforestry and agricultural waste, Uganda
Renetech, in collaboration with technology providers and local partners, have developed a solution for producing briquettes from sustainably produced biomass, to reduce deforestation and provide alternatives for provision of cooking energy.
The first phase of the project (2010-2012) was funded in part by Tillväxtverket (the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth) and UNCST (Uganda National Council for Science and Technology). Initial production of briquettes from agri-wastes was developed by our local partner in Uganda, supported by Renetech. All machines contracted for the first phase have been shipped to Uganda and will be installed in a number of briquetting stations during 2013. Renetech present focus is on supplying sustainable biomass for the scale-up of briquette production, involving agroforestry elements and rural forestry groups.
